My fear of flying developed during several flights to Colorado. Electrical problems, fuel leaking out of an airline before take-off, auxiliary engine failure before flying into a blizzard, and many other “turbulent” experiences escalated my fear.

In early September 2001, there was a terrible thunderstorm when my airplane was about to land at BWI, Baltimore. The airport radar was struck by lightning (more…)

Ceres Gallery is pleased to present New York Revealed, Stirring the Melting Pot, an exhibition of
mixed-media paintings by Marian Osher.

“It is the blending of cultures that gives New York its character. In these troubling times of controversy about immigration, it is especially important to remember that our families were once immigrants too.” Osher says, as she stirs the melting pot with this exhibition of colorful paintings that share her explorations of Manhattan.

Just about everything about New York fascinates Osher—diverse cultures, ethnic foods, a treasure trove of little known landmarks, neighborhoods, parks, industry, city walls, even the trash (and there is a lot of it). Osher is a Maryland artist and frequent traveler to New York who loves exploring the city.

What makes New York such an extraordinary city is that it continues to draw people from all over the world. Cultural diversity makes this city vibrant, flavorful and exciting. And remember that it was a cafe in New York that was the first to serve cappuccino in America!

Marian Osher is a painter, printmaker, mixed-media artist and private art instructor. New York Revealed is her 22nd solo show, and her fifth solo show in New York. Her artwork has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in the U.S., as well as international shows in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, India, Italy, Moscow, and Shanghai.

Marian Osher’s mixed-media painting and printmaking on canvas celebrates a broad spectrum of colors, textures and dimensions that stimulate her personal vision. Floral gifts from friends and family are reinterpreted in paintings and monotype printmaking on sculpted canvas. An avid beachcomber, Osher combines paintings of shells, real shells and sand, extending the composition onto the sides of small deep canvases. Additionally, she explores compositions with shells in monotype printmaking, building multiple levels on canvas. She hopes that viewers will feel tactile and sensory connections to their own experiences.

Beach Life Paintings Featured at the Philip Morton Gallery, Rehoboth, Delaware

August 8, 2012

The activities of people on the beach repeat themselves over and over again with variations of human activity — playing, reading, digging, swimming, fishing, talking, eating, watching, sleeping, schlepping, walking, and putting sun tan lotion on their bodies. They do the things that people do as a species. But (more…)
