In early September 2001, there was a terrible thunderstorm when my airplane was about to land at BWI, Baltimore. The airport radar was struck by lightning (more…)

Marian Osher’s mixed-media painting and printmaking on canvas celebrates a broad spectrum of colors, textures and dimensions that stimulate her personal vision. Floral gifts from friends and family are reinterpreted in paintings and monotype printmaking on sculpted canvas. An avid beachcomber, Osher combines paintings of shells, real shells and sand, extending the composition onto the sides of small deep canvases. Additionally, she explores compositions with shells in monotype printmaking, building multiple levels on canvas. She hopes that viewers will feel tactile and sensory connections to their own experiences.

Saturday Night Very Much Alive at Philip Morton Gallery Reception

June 12, 2012

Saturday night was “alive” with a constant stream of people at the Philip Morton Gallery.  I had a great time meeting lots of interesting people.  One of those people was Alan Henney, a multi-talented writer, photographer, videographer, and radio show producer, who interviewed me at the reception.  Below is the photo that he took of me with some of my artwork as well as his write-up, included in the online Beach News Report.

“Next to Anita’s new studio, is the Philip Morton Gallery. Eric Davison, director of the gallery, has another exciting season planned and more exquisite glass work coming soon. In addition to paintings, the classy gallery is known for its fine glass, sculpture and mixed media.

One of the recent artists he is featuring is Marian Osher. She has a series of 10 beach life scenes on exhibition. They are mixed media acrylic painting and photo collages on canvas. Marian says she likes to take generic photos of people on the beach. They each have their own story of who, why and what they are. She takes the photos, applies paint and actual beach sand giving the work a unique texture and beach feel and she likes to extend the work to the frame’s edges. She too has exhibitions in New York and Washington, D.C. Check her Website or look at her work — and much more — in person at the Philip Morton Gallery, 47 Baltimore Avenue.”

A Closing Reception Opens Doors

March 29, 2012

If you are having an art exhibition, I highly recommend offering a closing reception in addition to the opening reception. It gives folks another chance to see the show and meet the artist. Since the opening reception for ART*SPARKS was on a Saturday afternoon, the closing reception on a Sunday afternoon provided people with the option of a different day of the week. (more…)
